TROUT FISHING HIGHLIGHTS 2009 - 2010

Plenty of water and lots of brown trout feeding over recently flooded lake shores.  The standout fly fishing water was Woods Lake with many anglers landing their first brown trout there, sometimes in very shallow water of around 6 to 10 inches on the lake margins.

Here are just a few photos from some of the fantastic fishing days we experienced during the season 2009 - 2010

Peter Kuzmiuk from Sydney had a brilliant day at Woods Lake
landing and releasing 18 big brown trout - sensational effort Peter.

Peter Smith came over from Perth for 5 days to try fly fishing for the first time
and found the big brown trout at Woods Lake to be just the ticket for a novice angler.
Most of Peter's fish were caught on the shore with a wet fly but some came
up to a dry stone fly imitation.

Greg Peacock from "The Priory Country Lodge" at Bothwell
Enjoyed a day at Woods Lake and tried his hand at fly fishing for the first time.
Greg was happy to land  2 very good fish late in the day.

Alan Pickering came down for four days and enjoyed the early season shore fishing at Woods Lake.
Most fish were taken from the shore during some of the early season "stone fly" hatches.

November was sensational for shore fly fishing at Woods. Colin Miles back to fish
with me again for three days was lucky enough to be there during some fantastic
"stone fly" hatches with the flies falling like snow drops all around us.
With trout feeding on the surface, Colin was able to hook and release
many fish. We both lost count of the numbers but what a way to fish.

Colin, logged in but landed the fish.        Another one on the shoresShallow water fly fishing

The" Ada Gil" stopped for repairs in Hobart before going South to meet the anti whaling ship "Steve Irwin"
I took this photo after I declared that we would never see the boat again as I decided it was too small to survive the trip.
I was right in a way as the Adi Gil was later sunk by one of the Japanese whaler ships.

Alan Lister also had the opportunity to stalk and hook good browns on the shores of Woods Lake.
Here is a couple of shots of Alan stalking, sighting, hooking and playing a good brown trout at Woods Lake.
Note the trout movement in the second photo (top left of photo).

Jenni came up to Woods for a fly fishing tuition day and managed to land good big brown trout.
Arron wanted to learn to fly fish prior to doing a trip around Aus for a year and managed a couple of good fish.
Pamela De Groot spent 10 days in the highlands and landed some great trout especially at Woods Lake
Graham came down for a quick fish and was very happy with his catch.

Rick Hatton of the USA took some time off from his fire fighting commitments in Vic to
sample the trout, fly fishing in Tasmania which he had heard of over in the states.
Rich owns and operates one of the latest big plane fire bombers, a DC 10 and
was on assignment to the Vic Government for the summer fire threat period.
